(The wall, that oldest of human contact points.)
A friend of mine posted a G. K. Chesterton quote on his facebook wall today. I found a few more to fill the picture in.
“The whole modern world has divided itself into Conservatives and Progressives. The business of Progressives is to go on making mistakes. The business of Conservatives is to prevent mistakes from being corrected. Even when the revolutionist might himself repent of his revolution, the traditionalist is already defending it as part of his tradition.” — ILN, 4/19/1924
(The wall. Here we might find a few honest thoughts hastily scribbled, hidden as if from the eyes of the wise.)
“It is the mark of our whole modern history that the masses are kept quiet with a fight. They are kept quiet by the fight because it is a sham-fight; thus most of us know by this time that the Party System has been popular only in the sense that a football match is popular.” — A Short History of England
The weather today: Cloudy with a 50-50 chance of stupidity. That is, if the progressives get their way, stupidity. If the conservatives get their way, stupidity. Stupidity either way, just a different source.
(Sketch: a bipolar nation careening like a drunken mother.)
“Men are ruled, at this minute by the clock, by liars who refuse them news, and by fools who cannot govern.” — The New Name, Utopia of Usurers and Other Essays, 1917
